SORD 4-cell medic pack

I had been searching for a new medicpack for my loadout for some time, with a few criterias I thought I wanted;

  • It had to mount directly to my carrier.
  • Velcro on the inside
  • Elastics on the inside of the lid
  • Clamshell opening
  • Velcro to mount flag
  • PALS on the front
  • Low profile so I can stay mobile indoors

So after searching far and wide, I ended up with this, the SORD 4-cell medic pack;

It comes with all the forementioned qualities, and four internal mesh insert-pouches – three zippered ones, and one elasticized open-top insert, with two separated rooms in it.

However, when I fill the pouches up, I can only fit two of the zippered pouches along with the opentop!
In addition, when I fill both the pouches as well as the elastics in the lid, I’m having a hard time closing the pack fully! It isn’t really a problem, I’ll only have to take less stuff with me!

The second problem comes with the fact that I want to be able to swap between configurations on my platecarrier.
I use a Crye Assault zip-on panel on occation, and therefore I wanted to mount the SORD-pack to a Crye molle zip-on so I could swap between them without the hassle of threading molle all the time.
However, with both the pack, the zip-on panel and my hydrosystem, the pack gets a good deal of stand-off from the platecarrier, and thus shifting the weight around and limiting my mobility!

I apologize for this photo; I call it The teenage girl special – I took it myself in the bathroom mirror.Image

Antenna up my nose is an optical illusion. I promise.

So, I’ll be selling this thing.
I’ve ordered a High Ground Gear Medical Trauma Pack to replace it – it has most of the same features, but isn’t strapped on to my back.
I’ll post a review of it if I get the time!

What backpack do you currently use? And if money and availability wasn’t an issue, what would you have used?

  1. Not a Medic myself, but, judging from the picture, a medic pack filled-up and attached to the plate carrier looks more awkward than I thought.

    Personally, I would go for a middle-sized medicback and a medic pouch (have an OD Claw Gear IFAK pocuh for my TT Chest Rig MKII). And since you;re in Multicam, Tasmanian Tiger has the answer.

    And a 2-in-1 medical pack

    • That last pack looks good!

      I had thoughts about teammates helping with getting items from the mounted backpack, as well as using a waistpack myself, but it didn’t work out as planned. It just got too bulky.

      With the new pack, I can do everything myself.
      For my own medical needs, I have the Crye Precision Medic Pouch:)
